Driving simulators are designed to recreate the experience of driving a vehicle as accurately as possible, and visual performance is a key aspect of this experience. Visual performance is a crucial aspect of driving simulators as it determines the level of immersion and realism of the experience. The visual performance is affected by various factors, including graphics quality, real-time rendering, environment quality, and drivers.
A driving simulator is a computer-based system that replicates the experience of driving a vehicle. It is used for various purposes, including training, research, and entertainment. Visual performance is a crucial aspect of driving simulators as it determines the level of immersion and realism of the experience. The visual performance is affected by various factors, including graphics quality, real-time rendering, environment quality, and drivers.
Graphics Quality:
The quality of the graphics card, monitor, and display technology used in the simulator can greatly affect visual performance. Higher-end components will result in a more immersive and realistic visual experience.
Real-time rendering:
Driving simulators require real-time rendering, which means that the graphics must be generated and displayed in real time as the user interacts with the simulation. This requires a significant amount of processing power, which can impact the visual performance of the simulator.
Environment Quality:
The quality of the environment and landscapes, including the textures, lighting, and weather effects, can greatly impact the visual performance. A highly detailed and immersive environment will result in a more engaging and believable visual experience.
Drivers:
The drivers that control the graphics card and monitor are an important component of the visual performance of a driving simulator. It is important to keep these drivers up to date to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with the simulation software.
Overall, the visual performance of a driving simulator can greatly impact the user's experience and is crucial for providing a realistic and engaging experience. It is important to invest in high-quality components and keep the software and drivers updated to ensure the best possible visual experience.
The driving performance parameters will be collected using the driving simulator. The road environment is built up by the visual simulation real-time 3D model and is projected on the front of the vehicles. Located in the IIT-M laboratory, the simulator occupies an entire room. Drivers sit in an actual car mounted on a motion platform and look out onto a realistic cityscape with road and traffic projected on large-screen panels covering a 180-degree field of view. The scenes interactively respond to the driver’s changes in direction and speed. The car pitches, rolls and rumbles in response to acceleration, braking and road conditions. The driving scenario designed in this study is two -way two -lane non- control intersections with lane width were created, and speed limit was set at 60 km/h .
