Dr. Tarun Sharma is an accomplished retina specialist with extensive experience in the treatment of medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases. He has a particular interest in researching and developing treatments for inherited retinal diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Sharma collaborates closely with other clinician-scientists in his department to further advance his research investigations while also providing exceptional clinical care. He has also conducted several clinical and epidemiological studies and has published over 250 peer-reviewed manuscripts.
Dr. Sharma was a Professor of ophthalmology at the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University in India, where he served for over three decades. During his tenure, he was a leading expert in medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases and held several positions, including Director of Vitreoretinal Services and Program Director of the retina fellowship at the tertiary eye care institute - Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai, India.
His research contributions have been widely recognized, and he serves as a reviewer for several ophthalmology journals, including Retina, Ophthalmology, IOVS, TVST, New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Ophthalmology, and the British Journal of Ophthalmology.
