Dr. Sumeer Singh graduated with a bachelor’s in optometry in 2014 and a Master of Philosophy in Optometry in 2016 from Elite School of Optometry, Chennai, India. He moved to Melbourne in 2017 to pursue his Ph.D. in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences, The University of Melbourne. His Ph.D. work addressed a critical clinical evidence gap relating to the potential effect of blue-light-blocking spectacle lenses on visual function. He has authored 22 peer-reviewed international research publications, several of which are in the highest-ranked ophthalmology and vision science journals. He is currently working as a Postdoctoral clinical research fellow at the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences, The University of Melbourne.
A significant part of his postdoctoral fellowship focuses on developing a novel, one-step, point-of-care device for rapid and accurate dry eye diagnosis: ADMiER - Acoustically-Driven Microfluidic Extensional Rheometry. He also contributes as a Sub-Investigator and study site member on multiple industry-sponsored Phase I and II clinical trials investigating new devices and therapeutics for anterior eye disease. His broader research interests include blue light and ocular health, ocular imaging, translational research, and evidence-based practice. He is a member of the Melbourne Cochrane Eyes and Vision Centre for Evidence-Based Vision Care - one of nine centers globally- and a sub-committee member for Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society's global Workshop entitled “A Lifestyle Epidemic: Ocular Surface Disease”.
